As I lay in bed hugging my copy of Icky Thump on vinyl I can’t help but think of all the missed opportunities. This was the band that I had always said would be killer live. With raw talent and a palpable passion for what they do I am incredibly saddened by the news of their amicable split.

The White Stripes are no more. I also can’t help but wonder if this is what my parents felt like when they heard the Beatles broke up. The White Stripes were the one band that I could go into a store and buy their album without having heard a single track and I knew that it was already going to be my new favorite album. They constantly delivered sounds that were both innovative and had the signature White Stripes flavor of blues mixed with smashed up and screaming guitars.

I will do my part to honor the memory of the band by listening to their entire catalogue on my iPod and with a heavy heart hang up any hopes I had of experiencing this magic in person.

I wrote this one year ago and now Jack White is coming to Sasquatch. I want to go so bad.
